The dissertation committee

Submitting your dissertation
At least 9 weeks before you want to do your oral defense
- [ ] Contact PhD Administration ([email protected]) indicating your intent to defend your thesis
- [ ] Submit a PDF of your thesis to the library ([email protected]) for validation that formatting has been done correctly
- [ ] (If applicable) Fill out form 9 on the Nagano (cer.hec.ca) to signal that data collection and analysis are complete for your dissertation project
- [ ] Fill out the Notice of submission of a PhD Dissertation form
- [ ] Ensure that your advisor has completed the “Appointment of a PhD Thesis Jury” on the portal
At least 8 weeks before you want to do your oral defense
- [ ] The PhD administration will send you a “Jury Contact Information” document. Fill it in and send it back to them
- [ ] Make sure your advisor has sent your (library approved) dissertation to your external examiner and the rest of your committee
If you are doing a dissertation by articles, also complete…
- [ ] The authorization to write a dissertation per articles (where/how?)
- [ ] The authorization of the co-authors (in case the articles have multiple co-authors) where/how?)
- [ ] The permission from the publisher (in case the articles are already published in a journal or a book)(where/how?)
At least 4 weeks before you want to do your oral defense
If and only if all your committee members agree that the dissertation is ready to be defended…
- [ ] The Committee Chair informs the PhD program administration of the date and time of the defense. The administration then takes care of the logistical organization of the defense
